Professional Development Day: Leveraging the Strengths of Autism

On Friday the 25th of November 2016, primary/secondary/TAFE teachers and educational support staff are invited to an exciting professional development experience themed on ‘Leveraging the Strengths of the Autism Spectrum’.

The I CAN Network is uniquely placed to facilitate discussion on this subject, because our team channels the strengths of 40 diverse Autistic individuals.

We have packaged up what we’ve learned from walking with so many on the Spectrum into a framework called ’Quiet Magic Method®’. Quiet Magic Method® explores ‘flexible communication structures’ with learners on the Spectrum. In the school context, Quiet Magic works to give teachers a thinking framework for how they can achieve great results by embracing a student’s Autism. In essence, Quiet Magic empowers educators to come alongside learners on the Spectrum quietly, in a way that crafts opportunities for learners to channel their Autistic talents into school life, leading them to achieve key learning outcomes in unique ways.
Our professional development day will be delivered by our teachers from within the I CAN team and our mentors and mentees on the Autism Spectrum. Any teacher from an I CAN School  will be able to attend the day at a discounted rate.
