AWEgust for AWEtism is here!

That’s right folks, it’s that time of year again!

For those unfamiliar with it, AWEgust for AWEtism is an annual fundraiser run by the I CAN Network, the proceeds of which go towards providing our mentoring, camps, and other support programs for Autistics.

Since its debut in 2015, the money raised by AWEgust for AWEtism has allowed I CAN to mentor over 700 young people on the spectrum, expand the reach of our programs to regional Victoria and Queensland and online, and offer paid employment opportunities to Autistic adults.

So how does it work? Basically, participants take on an “I CAN” challenge for the month, either individually or in a group, and sign up at our website:

Challenges we’ve seen in the past include going without coffee or television for a month, saying hi to a stranger every day of August, or jogging a certain distance. This year, I myself have been dared by one of the students I mentor to wax my Chewbacca-esque legs if I make it to $500!

This year, we are also running several exciting events to give you more ways to take part in AWEgust. Many of our dedicated mentors will be donating their time and wisdom in AWEgust to create new and exciting ways to reach more Autistic young people, including holding interest-based online mentoring groups and themed webinars. Please follow us on Facebook to track all events in AWEgust and beyond!

You can also donate to other people’s challenges at the link above. Please consider making a contribution; even a small amount could make a life-changing difference to someone on the spectrum. We want our Rethink on AWEtism to help everybody out there who could benefit from it, but to do that, we need your help.
