Online Mentoring - Autism Queensland

I CAN Network is an Autistic mentoring program delivered by Autistic mentors. Programs will be available during school hours in Terms 2 and 3 2019.

Why I CAN Network?

I CAN Network has been created by Autistic mentors. Its program is designed to empower Autistic students to experience Autistic pride, self-confidence, self-acceptance, belonging and have an ‘I CAN’ attitude.

How will the online mentoring work in Queensland?

  • Each online mentoring session will run for one hour
  • Sessions will be scheduled during school hours
  • Sessions will be via the platform ‘Zoom’
  • Each group has a maximum of 8 autistic high school students per program
  • Each program offers 8 online sessions delivered across one school term
  • Supported by a local school staff member

Please note connectivity to the private ‘Zoom room’ requires a customised login to ensure the online mentoring is safe and private. The content involves a mix of games, storytelling, reflection and tip-sharing.

Who can participate in online mentoring?

I CAN’s online mentoring is targeted to Year 7 – 10 Autistic students in Queensland state high schools. Mentors are trained to deliver I CAN’s content to a very diverse range of Autistic students and can embrace multiple processing styles in their facilitation of the mentor group.

Who is the online mentoring FREE for?

40 Autistic students from state schools located in Darling Downs South West, Central Qld, North Qld and Far North Qld.

Please note, participation in this I CAN online mentoring program opportunity is limited to eight online mentoring sessions.
