Autistic Student Input Needed – Victorian Government Schools

Dear I CAN Supporters,

If your Autistic young person attends a Victorian Government School, we are asking for their input on school improvement via a brief survey.

The survey link can be found here: START SURVEY – Survey closes after 5PM on Friday 11 October 2019.

Here is a parent CONSENT FORM which is a pre-requisite to completing the survey.

I went to a Victorian government school Wantirna College from 2000 – 2005. I was a student who loved structure. Thankfully my school always backed me to participate in initiatives that gave students a voice. It was these initiatives – whether it was student forums, public speaking competitions and debating – that built up my sense of worth and confidence.

We have an opportunity to give today’s students a sense of worth and influence over how school policies take shape.

The Department of Education and Training has asked I CAN Network to invite I CAN mentees and supporters to complete the Department’s online student survey on improving government schools for Autistic students. This is a genuine effort by the Department to hear the voice of Autistic students and build student views into the Victorian Autism Education Strategy FY20 – FY23.

I CAN Network has been fortunate to play a meaningful role in the development of this strategy. It’s important to I CAN Network because positive experiences of school – like mine – should be far more common in our schools. Unfortunately they’re not. We invite you to be part of changing this.

START SURVEY – Survey closes after 5PM on Friday 11 October 2019.

It’s essential that the parents of participating students complete the attached consent form and return it (even as a photo) to [email protected].

Thank you so much for your support!
