Galen was diagnosed with profound Autism at the age of 4 years and 1 month. He originally attended a special school before transferring to a local country school where his mum says he was “loved and nurtured”. He then went to a mainstream secondary school for year 7 where he came top in music and art!
Galen is now a pianist, a potter who hand builds chess sets (he built one for the junior chess champion of Victoria 2017) and an animator. Galen has been playing piano and singing Since he was 6 years old and has played at concerts in front of up to 100 people. His animations have been praised on You Tube and he was short listed in the “Other Film Festival” last year. The OFF opened an IMDb profile page for him. His chess sets sell for up to $400.00. Galen was the Keynote Speaker, with all his work on display, at the opening of the NDIS in Bendigo.
My favourite character is Kimba the white lion, because I like lions. In my spare time, I like to travel on trains. My I CAN Network is Mum, Daddy, Jacob and Emma (my carers). Home is my perfect world. I feel happy when I’m creating and Autism helps me be creative. I CAN do anything I want to.
The I CAN Network creates a world that embraces Galen’s strengths. We need your support to continue creating a society that empowers young people on the Autism Spectrum. Join us by donating to our next venture: holding one of our acclaimed camps in Queensland.
